Andy Ruiz Jr’s gruesome claim before Anthony Joshua title challenge

Andy Ruiz Jr has made the ­startling claim he is prepared to die in the ring, even though two of his friends have lost their lives boxing.

Ruiz’s pal Alejandro ‘Timon’ ­Martinez died in 2012, three years after slipping into a coma following a fight, Another mate, Frankie Leal, passed away the following year after suffering brain injuries in a ­brutal knockout.

That would have persuaded some fighters to hang up their gloves. But Ruiz says he is still prepared to put everything on the line against Anthony Joshua here in New York on Saturday.

While that may sound reckless, Ruiz claims this must be his mindset if he is going to have any chance of pulling off what would be a huge shock in Madison Square Garden. Rather than seeing boxing as something that could kill him, he claims it saved his life as he might have been a drug dealer without it.
