The Federal High Court in Abuja, Nigeria, on Friday has ordered the deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, be released from the detention and confinement imposed on him in Nasarawa State, Nigeria.
The dethroned Emir of Kano had on Thursday filed a suit via his lawyer, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), before the Federal High Court in Abuja over his unlawful detention.
In the suit, Sanusi, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), asked for, “An interim order of this Honourable Court releasing the Applicant from the detention and/or confinement of the Respondents and restoring the Applicant’s rights to human dignity, personal liberty, freedom of association and movement in Nigeria, [apart from Kano State] pending the hearing and determination of the Applicant’s Originating Motion.”
The judge, Justice Anwuli Chikere has now granted Sanusi his prayers through an interim order.
