Robert Pattinson confirmed as new Batman

From vampire flicks to superhero movies: Robert Pattinson has been confirmed as the new Batman.

The former Twilight star will play the caped crusader in Matt Reeves’s forthcoming film. He succeeds Ben Affleck, who left the role in January.

Pre-production on the film, to be titled The Batman and set for release in June 2021, is due to start this summer.

Pattinson is no stranger to supernatural stories, making his name not only in the Twilight franchise, but as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Since his years of mainstream success, he has moved into more unconventional offerings. He most recently starred in Claire Denis’s High Life and Robert Eggers’s The Lighthouse, two of the critical darlings of 2019 so far.

At 33 years old, Pattinson will become one of the youngest actors ever to play the role on the big screen – second only to Christian Bale, who was 31 when Batman Begins was released.
